"Christmas Around the World" Projects

For our mid-term research project, we decided to learn more about other cultures. And... since Christmas was right around the corner, we thought it would be fun to research how other countries celebrate Christmas. Each student chose which country he/she would like to learn more about, researched the information online, took notes, and created a power point to show our class and either a first grade class or second grade class. Parents were also invited to come and see.:) Below are pictures that we put on our bulletin board to tell a little about them.

Then we saw the "Big Man" himself...SANTA!  We told him all about what we learned from our projects!:).  He said that he has been to ALL of those countries!
That's A LOT of sleigh miles!  :)

We ❤️ rocks!

In Science, we have been discussing the three main types of rocks, their properties, and how to identify them. In the pictures below, we are looking at various rocks and comparing them to our own rock to see if we can identify it.  We also used the streak test to help us.

Happy Veterans' Day!

On November 11, we had a very special guest, Dylan's granddad, Mr. Hildebrand, come in and speak to the 3rd graders about his life experiences. He was a Vietnam veteran, spent 21 years in the military, and was a truck driver for 27 years. It was VERY interesting to learn about someone else's life and to hear his words of advice.
Thank you, Mr. Hildebrand, for taking the time to talk to us and for preparing a WONDERFUL history lesson!

Happy Grandparents' Day! (for 3rd grade anyway)

On November 7, we had our annual Grandparents' Day. However, this year, we did something different. The students learned more about their grandparents by completing a "compare and contrast" booklet together. They discussed prices of items from then and now.
They also compared and contrasted things about themselves such as chores, favorite TV show, what they wanted/want to be when they grow up, etc.
We had A LOT of fun and learned some interesting things about our grandparents as well.
After finishing our booklets, we got to read with our grandparents and show them how we take AR quizzes.  Finally, we got to eat lunch with them. Yum!
