Our OWN Versions of "If You Give..."

We read several books in the "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" series. Then we wrote our very OWN versions. We also illustrated our books. Next, we got to read them to the first graders.

Here are the titles of our books.

We were also working on an animal power point in Science. So, being familiar with Infohio's BookFlix, some of the students decided to choose the same animal to write about as the one they were doing a power point on. That way, they could have a nonfiction AND fiction book about the same animal.

We were also able to show the second graders some of our finished power points.   However, that just wasn't enough for some of the students. They decided to make their OWN AR quiz for their OWN book:)!

So, after one of our students showed them her factual power point AND read them her book, she challenged the second graders to take her AR quiz! SURPRISE!

The second graders were VERY GOOD sports:).  Finally, we had a group of students "grade" their AR quizzes. They decided that if they got 100%, then they should get two stickers. The rest got one sticker for trying.:)

Vocabulary Review

We like to play a vocabulary review game called "What Am I?" Each student gets a vocabulary word paper clipped to the back of his/her shirt. Then, he/she will go around and ask his/her classmates a yes or no question. For example, 'Am I a type of solid figure?' Then, based on their responses, he/she will keep asking questions until he/she thinks he/she knows the answer. Finally, he/she will come and ask either Mrs. Pfeiffer or Mrs.Shepherd 'Am I a ...?' If he/she is correct, we remove the word, and he/she goes and helps the students who are struggling. If he/she gets it incorrect, we say "Try again," and he/she asks his/her classmates more questions. The students REALLY liked this game!

Fun with Tangrams!

Then, on a Fun Friday, we made Tangram Dinosaurs out of various 2-D shapes.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Last Friday, we had our annual Valentine's Day party. Mrs. Stoller (Laura) and Mrs. Morehead (Lane) were in charge of the games. We had a blast! We played "Stack the Hearts," "Shooting Cupid's Arrows," "Heart Match Up," several balloon games, etc. Then we ate lots of snacks and looked at our valentines (or saved them for when we got home). Thank you to everyone who helped/donated food.:)

Geometry!

In February, 3A worked very hard on building 3-D shapes using toothpicks and Play-doh.

Below are our finished sculptures.
